UX Writing Case Study: Rewrite UX Copy of UNIQLO App

Rewriting clear and purposeful copy to improve user experience.

After graduating from the UI/UX Bootcamp I took with dibimbing, I rewrote one study case from the UNIQLO app. UNIQLO app is an online shopping application that sells Uniqlo products. Because this application is used by Indonesian consumers who are interested in buying UNIQLO products, the copy in the application must consider the language used and not confuse users when using it.

I used a copy deck to break down this case study scenario, content description, content element and rationale.

In this case study, the user wants to log out of the application. However, in this UNIQLO app, it is difficult to find text to log out of the application, the text indicates that the user has disabled the connection between the application and the UNIQLO.com account, not to log out of the application.

Scenario: Lisa wants to see the purchase history in the UNIQLO app. But the account in this application is not Lisa’s account. Then Lisa wants to log out of the application, so she can log in using Lisa’s account.

Problem: Lisa can not find the “logout” text.

User Goal: Logout of the application.

Task: Make Lisa not confused about looking for text to log out of the application.

The copy in the top blue box in the first image is difficult to understand and the sentence is ambiguous.

The copy in the top blue box in the second image is confusing because the sentence indicates an instruction to disable the application and account relationship, not to log out of the application. Then the copy in the second blue box from the top indicates that if you deactivated the membership connection, it will lose access to wishlist information and purchase history forever, not temporarily.

Then in both images, all the copies are in the blue box at the bottom, some in English and the other in Indonesian, while the language in the application is Indonesian. The language is inconsistent.

Conclusion

I used the copy deck to rewrite the UX copy, I detailed the copy in the UNIQLO app and replaced all the inconsistent English copies with Indonesian. Then, rewrite the copy in the confirmation pop-up with a title that reads, “Apakah Anda yakin akan keluar dari aplikasi UNIQLO?”, followed by a subtitle that says “Jika keluar Anda tidak akan dapat melihat informasi daftar keinginan dan riwayat pembelian.” with 2 buttons, left button “Batal” and right button “Keluar”, so that users are not confused about logout of the application.
